about
This song was greatly inspired by the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and the countless other innocent Black & Brown beings that have lost their lives to brutal acts of violence due to an unjust system; a system in which we must face constant trauma. We continuously have to fight for our voices to be heard and to be treated fairly as equals simply because of the color of our skin. In this song, I express a yearning to be “Carried Away” to a place beyond the pain, where we can truly feel at peace.
lyrics
Chorus:
Can you carry,
Can you carry,
Can you carry me away?
Ahhh
Can you carry,
Can you carry, Can you carry me away?
Away, away, away…
Verse 1:
Can you breathe life back, into the ones we’ve lost?
Between sleep and reality, I dream beyond the pain
So please...
Chorus:
Can you carry,
Can you carry,
Can you carry me away?
Ahhh
Can you carry,
Can you carry,
Can you carry me away?
Away, away, away...
Verse 2:
How can I plan my future, with this fear, they’ve ingrained inside of me?
They say, because the color of my skin, if I live, it must be in suffering?
So please...
Chorus:
Can you carry,
Can you carry,
Can you carry me away?
Away, away, away...
Rap (Dizzy SenZe):
Planning my future in what ifs
Knowing my flesh will be pushing some buttons
The system infected with so much injustice
Oppression and questioning why is there nothing
That’s ever been done
Carry me high like the sun
Carry the cries of my tongue
Carry the parts that’s been numb
Carried the hardships from young
Pardon the hearts that’s been stung
Losses that hardened me numb
Hardly unguarded nor stunned
Marked with no option to run
Breathing, I can’t, breath in my stance
A threat if even I dance
Freeing my mind, nothing comes free in this land
It’s always fees at a glance
Killing’s a feasible plan
Bridge
I’m sick of fighting for my freedom
I’m sick of fighting to be heard
Sick of letting those in power, determine what I’m worth
So can you carry,
Can you carry me away?
Away, away, away, away!
Chorus:
Can you carry,
Can you carry,
Can you carry me away?
Oh please,
Can you carry,
Can you carry,
Can you carry me away?
Away
Outro:
Oh I’m so heavy, I’m so heavy, I’m so heavy, I’m so heavy
So can you carry, Can you carry me, away?
